Ripplix vs AthenaHQ: Which AI Visibility Tool Fits Your Team?

AthenaHQ offers 11 AI models, a content agent and credit-based pricing. Ripplix offers prompt-based pricing, daily tracking and page-level Win/Loss diagnosis. Here is how they compare, with prices as of October 8, 2026.

This page is for marketers and agencies choosing between AthenaHQ and Ripplix. Both tools track how your brand shows up in AI answers from tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews. Both also try to tell you what to do next, but they work and price in different ways.

The one-line answer: AthenaHQ is a strong pick if you want many AI models, a content agent that writes and publishes for you, and deep integrations. Ripplix is a strong pick if you want simple pricing by prompt, lots of daily tracking for the money, and page-level diagnosis of why a competitor's page won the citation instead of yours.

The short answer

Choose Ripplix if...Choose AthenaHQ if...
You want a fixed number of tracked prompts per plan, so your monthly bill is easy to plan. You want 11 AI models on a self-serve plan.
You want to know why a specific page lost a citation, and what to change on it.You want an AI agent that drafts content and publishes it to your CMS or Shopify store.
You want help finding the Reddit, Quora and forum threads that shape AI answers. You need an API, an MCP connection or a Looker Studio connector.
You want senior practitioners on hand as you grow. You need SOC 2, single sign-on and multi-region tracking at enterprise scale.

AthenaHQ and Ripplix at a glance

First, a few terms. AEO (answer engine optimization) and GEO (generative engine optimization) both mean improving how often AI tools mention and recommend you. A prompt is a question you ask an AI tool, such as "best payroll software for startups." A citation is a link or source the AI shows next to its answer.

The table below compares the two tools as of October 8, 2026.

What each tool is and who built it

AthenaHQ

AthenaHQ is a San Francisco company. Y Combinator lists it in its Winter 2025 batch, founded in 2025 by Andrew Yan (CEO) and Alan Yao (CTO).2 AthenaHQ's own team page describes Yan as a "Former Google Search PM, DeepMind alum" and says Yao was formerly at ServiceNow. The same page lists Y Combinator among its backers.12

Its platform page sums up the product in one line: "Monitor what AI says. Understand why. Take action." It says AthenaHQ is "Trusted by 300+ global brands" and shows logos including Coinbase, SoFi, Hearst and PagerDuty.5 AthenaHQ also reports SOC 2 certification, with a Type II report dated June 2026.13

Ripplix

Ripplix is bootstrapped. Its three founders bring nearly four decades of combined experience. Girish Kumar spent 18 years in digital marketing and growth at companies like Amazon and MakeMyTrip. Reshav Singh spent 15 years in SEO and performance marketing, including senior growth roles at MakeMyTrip and upGrad. Nikhil Singh, the CTO, built software and data systems at Tripoto, InnovAccer and others.

Ripplix started as a growth consulting business. Clients began asking how they showed up in AI answers. The founders answered those questions by hand. Some of those changes produced measurable improvements. Ripplix turns that hands-on work into software.

The consulting side still runs. Ripplix Consulting is a senior-only team for SEO, AEO, GEO, content and performance marketing, and every operator has 10+ years of experience.14

Engines, tracking and data

Engines

This is one of AthenaHQ's clear strengths. Its free Essential plan covers 5 AI platforms: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Gemini and Copilot. Its Starter plan covers 11 models: ChatGPT, Perplexity, AI Overviews, AI Mode, Gemini, Claude, Copilot, Grok, DeepSeek, Meta AI and Mistral. AthenaHQ says more models are "available upon request."1

Ripplix's Starter plan covers 3 engines. Pro and Advanced cover 4. You pick from ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI and Perplexity. Claude, Copilot, Grok and DeepSeek are on Enterprise only.3

Tracking frequency

Ripplix runs every tracked prompt every day, on every engine in your plan.3 You do not choose a schedule.

AthenaHQ lets you pick. Its credit calculator estimates "the monthly credits you'll use across prompts, locations, models, and cadence."4 Daily checks matter because AI answers change from day to day. Our guide on how many checks you need for AI answer volatility explains why.

Metrics

Both tools cover visibility, share of voice (your share of all brand mentions in your category; see our guide on how to read share of voice), sentiment and cited sources. Each adds its own extras. AthenaHQ's Brand Integrity & Crawlability feature aims to "Detect inaccurate claims and inaccessible pages."5 That covers hallucinations, which are false statements an AI makes about your brand. Enterprise adds "Knowledge Base and claim review" and "Oracle discrepancy detection."1 Ripplix does not list a dedicated feature for checking whether AI answers about you are true.

Ripplix adds fan-out queries. When an AI tool answers a question, it often runs several smaller web searches first. Those smaller searches are the fan-out. Ripplix shows the related queries and sub-topics AI models explore when building a response. It also has a "why visibility changed" timeline. This marks the moments your visibility moved and explains the likely cause, such as a guide that gained citations or outdated pricing that weakened recommendations.7

For traffic, Ripplix connects AI visibility to real website visits through referral traffic from AI platforms.7 AthenaHQ's Google Analytics 4 integration lets you "View GA4 traffic, engagement, and conversion data alongside your AI search results."10

Prompts: where your question list comes from

AthenaHQ's approach

AthenaHQ's Prompt & Demand Intelligence aims to "Find the prompts shaping customer discovery."5 A September 2026 video describes finding "the prompts your buyers actually ask AI."15 Its Search Console integration can "Use search queries to create tracked prompts."10 Its Discover feature also suggests prompts from your website, Search Console, competitor keyword gaps, and "Reddit threads, YouTube comments, and videos in your category."6

AthenaHQ also estimates prompt volumes. That means how often people ask a question in AI tools. A 2025 AthenaHQ post says this runs on its own "Query Volume Estimation Model (QVEM)," which "processes both public and private data."16 These are model estimates, not exact counts.

Ripplix's approach

Ripplix's Prompt Discovery looks for the questions buyers actually ask. It pulls them from three places:7

  1. Real discussions. Reddit and Quora threads where people ask for advice.
  2. Search behaviour. Google's "People Also Ask" questions.
  3. AI fan-out queries. The sub-questions AI tools search for while answering.

It then groups the prompts into themes. You can also upload your own prompts or keyword themes. Our guide to prompt discovery from buyer questions walks through the method.

The honest catch: Prompt Discovery is on Ripplix's Pro plan and above, not Starter.3 On Starter you bring your own prompt list. Ripplix does not list prompt volume estimates, which AthenaHQ offers.

What happens after the dashboard

Most tools in this category are good at measurement. The hard part is the next step: what exactly should your team change? Both tools try to answer that, in different ways.

How AthenaHQ handles it: Action Center and the content agent

AthenaHQ leans toward doing the work for you. Its platform page lists these parts:5

  • Action Center. "Turn prioritized opportunities into governed content, outreach, and commerce workflows."
  • Opportunity Prioritization. "Focus teams on the highest-impact actions."
  • Content Creation. "Create on-brand assets from real opportunities."
  • Citation Outreach. "Target the sources shaping AI recommendations."

The Starter plan includes on-page and off-page actions and a content optimization agent.1 The free Essential plan lists the Athena AI agent, an AI assistant you can work with inside the product.1 In August 2026, AthenaHQ added Shopping Pages for product and category pages, with automatic Shopify catalog sync.17

The content can go straight to your site. AthenaHQ publishes to WordPress, Webflow, Contentful, Sanity, Framer, Wix, Payload CMS and Shopify.10 If your team is short on writers, that is a real advantage. On Enterprise, its Athena Citation Engine (ACE) is "a machine learning model trained on millions of AI Search results to predict content citation probability."9

How Ripplix handles it: Win/Loss, Content Optimization and Discussions

Ripplix leans toward diagnosis. It does not list a content-writing feature. Instead, it tells you exactly what is wrong with a specific page and how the winning page differs. It follows a five-step flow: Monitor, Compare, Understand, Diagnose, Act.7

  • Win/Loss Analysis compares your page with the page the AI cited instead. It scores signals like structured data (code that labels your content for machines), freshness, depth, technical basics, domain authority, answer clarity, structure and comprehensiveness. Then it explains why you lost the citation, gives a recommended next move and builds an action plan. The analysis uses deterministic checks (fixed rules) plus model-assisted scoring.7 Our complete guide to win/loss analysis goes deeper.
  • Content Optimization gives each page an AI-readiness score. It checks your page copy, HTML, schema and robots.txt together, then lists fixes backed by evidence.7
  • Discussions finds the Reddit, Hacker News, Quora and forum threads that shape AI answers. It shows brand and competitor mentions with sentiment, and flags high-impact threads worth joining.7

Win/Loss and Content Optimization use monthly optimization credits. Starter includes 1,000, Pro 3,000 and Advanced 6,000, and you can buy more.3

A worked example (illustrative)

The brands below are invented. PipeTrack sells CRM software. Its visibility in ChatGPT for "best CRM for small agencies" dropped over three weeks. A rival, Optra, is now recommended in most of those answers.

StepAthenaHQ's approachRipplix's approach
1. Spot the dropVisibility and share of voice charts show the fall, across up to 11 models.Visibility and share of voice charts show the fall. The "why visibility changed" timeline marks when it started.
2. Find the causeCompetitive Intelligence and source data show Optra and the sources now shaping the answer. Action Center ranks the opportunities.Win/Loss compares PipeTrack's agency page with the Optra page ChatGPT cited. It might find the Optra page was updated last month, has a pricing table and uses FAQ schema, while PipeTrack's page shows 2024 pricing.
3. Decide the fixThe content agent drafts a new or improved page in PipeTrack's brand voice. The action plan lists specific fixes: update pricing, add a comparison table, add FAQ schema, tighten the opening answer.
4. Ship itThe draft is published to PipeTrack's CMS from inside AthenaHQ.PipeTrack's writer makes the changes. Content Optimization re-scores the page before it goes live.
5. Earned mediaCitation Outreach points to sources shaping recommendations.Discussions surfaces the actual Reddit and forum threads where Optra is being recommended, with sentiment.

AthenaHQ gets a new page out fast. Ripplix shows why the old page lost, next to the page that beat it.

Neha, Marketing, Recruit CRM, said: "The useful part wasn't just finding out that we were losing visibility. Ripplix showed us what the competing pages were doing differently and where we could improve."7

Pricing and value: credits versus prompts

How each one prices

AthenaHQ uses credits. One credit equals one AI response. Plans as listed on AthenaHQ's pricing page on October 8, 2026:1

  • Essential: free, with 300 credits and 5 AI platforms.
  • Starter: $295 a month, with 3,600 credits and 11 models. Paying yearly takes 17% off. Extra credits and API access are paid add-ons.
  • Enterprise: custom price and custom credits.

Ripplix uses prompts. Each plan has a fixed number of tracked prompts. Each prompt runs daily on every engine in your plan.3

Ripplix planMonthlyAnnual (per month)PromptsEngines
Starter$95$791003
Pro$295$2463004
Advanced$495$4135004
EnterpriseCustomCustomCustom7+

Why the unit matters

Credits are flexible. You can spread them across more prompts, more models or more frequent checks. The trade-off is forecasting. Your usage depends on three choices: how many prompts, how many models and how often. Change one, and your credit use changes. AthenaHQ offers a credit calculator to help.4

Prompts are simpler. With Ripplix, 100 prompts on Starter means 100 prompts checked daily on 3 engines. That makes the monthly cost easy to predict.

What $295 buys (our arithmetic)

Both tools have a $295 plan, so we compare there. We read AthenaHQ's "1 credit = 1 AI response" to mean one prompt, checked on one model, one time. We assume a 30-day month, or about 4.3 weeks.

Ripplix Pro at $295 runs 300 prompts on 4 engines every day:

300 × 4 × 30 = 36,000 AI responses a month

AthenaHQ Starter at $295 includes 3,600 credits, or 3,600 AI responses a month. That covers:

AthenaHQ Starter setupPrompts you could track
Daily, on 4 models30 (3,600 ÷ 30 days ÷ 4 models)
Daily, on all 11 models10 (3,600 ÷ 30 ÷ 11 = 10.9)
Weekly, on 4 modelsAbout 209 (3,600 ÷ 4.3 weeks ÷ 4)
Weekly, on all 11 modelsAbout 76 (3,600 ÷ 4.3 ÷ 11)

Now the cost per AI response:

  • AthenaHQ Starter: $295 ÷ 3,600 = about $0.08 per response
  • Ripplix Pro: $295 ÷ 36,000 = about $0.008 per response

This is our own arithmetic from public list prices, checked on October 8, 2026, at monthly billing with no add-ons. On raw tracking volume, Ripplix gives far more AI responses for the money.

What the per-response view leaves out

Raw volume is not the whole story:

  • Models. AthenaHQ Starter covers 11 models. Ripplix Pro covers 4. If you truly need all 11, Ripplix's self-serve plans cannot do it.
  • Content work. AthenaHQ's price includes a content optimization agent and CMS publishing.110 Ripplix does not list a content-writing feature. If you would otherwise pay a writer, that matters. Note that content work may also use credits. A May 2025 AthenaHQ update said each outline and each optimized piece of content used 40 credits;18 check the current rules before you plan.
  • Seats and competitors. AthenaHQ includes unlimited seats and unlimited competitor tracking.1 Ripplix Starter has 2 seats and 4 competitors. Pro has unlimited seats and 10 competitors.3
  • Trying it first. AthenaHQ has a free Essential plan with 300 credits.1 Ripplix lets you start any self-serve plan without a credit card and see your first snapshot before you commit.3 It also offers a free AI Visibility Report with no credit card, benchmarking up to four competitors.7

For full plan details, see the Ripplix pricing page.

Agency and team fit

AthenaHQ runs an agency program. Its agency page says agencies can "Manage multiple brands from one platform with team permissions and Google Analytics integration." It also offers pitch workspaces, discounted licenses, GEO certification, a dedicated Agency Growth Manager and monthly office hours.11

Ripplix handles agencies through brand limits on its standard, self-serve plans. Pro covers 3 brands and 10 competitors. Advanced covers 10 brands and 25 competitors, with 24 months of history. Enterprise has unlimited brands.3 A small agency can run several clients on a published plan.

Where Ripplix differs most for agencies is the people behind it. Advanced includes on-call support, and Enterprise includes active consulting and custom onboarding.3 The team behind it does AEO work for clients through Ripplix Consulting.14

Where AthenaHQ is stronger

  1. Engine breadth. 11 models on Starter, including Claude, Grok, Meta AI and Mistral.1 Ripplix's self-serve plans top out at 4.
  2. Content generation and publishing. A content agent, Shopping Pages and direct publishing to 8 CMS and store platforms.1017 Ripplix diagnoses and recommends fixes, but does not list a content-writing feature.
  3. Agent features. AthenaHQ lists the Athena AI agent on its free plan, and MCP connections let you query your data from ChatGPT or Claude.110
  4. Integrations. API, Looker Studio, Slack reports, GA4, Search Console and Google Ads.10 Ripplix does not list an API or BI connectors.
  5. Accuracy checks. Detection of inaccurate claims, plus claim review on Enterprise.51
  6. Enterprise security and scale. SOC 2 Type II, SAML SSO and audit logs on Enterprise.131 Ripplix mentions SSO and security review only as Enterprise options.3

Frequently asked questions

How does AthenaHQ pricing work?

AthenaHQ uses credits, and 1 credit equals 1 AI response. As listed on October 8, 2026, the Essential plan is free with 300 credits, Starter is $295 a month with 3,600 credits, and Enterprise is custom.

Is Ripplix cheaper than AthenaHQ?

Ripplix starts lower, at $95 a month for 100 daily prompts on 3 engines. At $295, Ripplix Pro runs about 36,000 AI responses a month, against 3,600 credits on AthenaHQ Starter, by our arithmetic. AthenaHQ's price includes 11 models and a content agent.

What is the difference between credits and prompts?

A prompt plan gives you a fixed number of questions, each checked on a set schedule. A credit plan gives you a pool of AI responses to spend as you choose. Credits are more flexible. Prompts are easier to forecast.
